Thinking about buying a mini crib… your opinion?
Please only ppl who have used them or knew ppl personally..
We recently found out that we are going to have VERY limited space. Limited like - the baby crib 4 feet from out bed limited.
We thought this was a great idea as we have the dimensions and thought it seemed perfect. The height was great for me - I am 5'3 and it wouldnt be so hard lifting baby in and out.
But then tonight my fiance told his mom our plan and she said that it was a bad idea considering the baby will grow fast and the crib will be useless very soon. I read lots of reviews about mini cribs and nobody ever complained about this. How long/big do babies usually stay in cribs?
Also, if it matters - its the Da Vinci Emily mini crib...
Ah, yes, the cosleepers.. I have heard recommendations on them and saw them in the JC Pennys catalog tonight. They look very convenient and good to have... They dont look TOO small either.
I have a mini crib & we've used it for nearly 6 months. It saves space & our baby has plenty of room. It is similar in style to the Emily. I found it on Ebay for around $110 + shipping. I also put a different mattress in it (from walmart.com) b/c the one that came with it was so thin. I used a regular sized crib for my oldest & didn't find any advantage to it really.

i think the mini crib would be fine. My daughter slept in a pack n play for the first year and a half of her life, then she went to the toddler bed. In a year and a half you will more then likely have more space and then can up grade to a toddler bed or something else

I haven’t had the mini-crib, but I looked at them, and decided against it. If I were in your situation, I would get a Graco Pack-n-play instead. These are small, portable (on wheels, and foldable), come with a bassinet insert to raise them up high so they are easy to retrieve a newborn from, and ours also had a changing table built in. When our daughter was tiny, she slept here perfectly well, and we didn’t have to buy a mini-crib mattress. When they outgrow the bassinet, they can sleep in the play-pen part (it is safe) or if you have the space you can buy a crib.
There are also some pack-n-plays that you can buy that are called cosleepers where one side drops down a bit, so you can put it right next to your bed and retrieve your baby in the middle of the night without having to get out of bed. We decided against this, but it could be a valuable option for you.

My last baby slept in a mini crib, cause I got sooo tired of the big crib. I mean, what child grows as long as his crib anyway? The crib i bought, the mattress seemed too thin, so I went to a specialty store and bought one that was thicker, so it would be more comfy. Other than that, the crib worked great. Good luck!!

you know we have a pak n play we have not used it, but recently my sister had moved back in with my mom and dad and her son sleeps in a pak n play has been for the last 7 months and just now hes getting too big for it hes almost 2. but my newborn. we have limited space too we have a bassinett for him he only slept in it the first 2 nights. after that he did not wanna sleep in it. he likes to be held or feel like hes being held. so i had gotten this fisher price rocker as a gift at my baby shower, that my mom and sister told me to put on my registry my neice had one as absolutly loved it. and we lay this on our bed inbetween my and my husband and he sleeps very well. i think once i got 8 straight hours of sleep. freaked me out but that was a very good day. try this. and if he/she loses his/her binky you wont have to get out of bed just sit up and give it back to him/her. sounds good? once he/she starts moving a lot you will; have to switch to something else. im going to start to get mine to start sleeping in his bassinett again. good luck!
