Nursery Decoration Is Fun
If you have a new baby on the way then decorating the nursery is key to prepare for your baby's arrival. You'll want to decide on a budget and then take an inventory of everything you need for your nursery. You'll need furniture such as a crib, lighting for the room, paint for the walls, pictures to go up, bedding for the crib, and shades or drapes to cover the windows. You'll probably be focused first and foremost on the crib. If you don't have a lot of money to spend then try to find your furniture on the cheap.
You can go to thrift stores or flea markets to find furniture. You could also ask around to your family and friends for any baby furniture they may have for you to use. You can get a great crib at a garage sale too. You should also look at large retailers like Walmart or Target for a good crib. You can save a lot of money shopping at a big store like this. You should look at furniture by Graco, Century, or Bassett Baby Furniture if you want to save money on baby furniture. You can get a lot of decorating help if you go to a Bassett store for your furniture needs.
You can also consider buying Baby Dream Furniture if you have a tight budget to work with. They have a great selection of furniture to choose from and you find it in over 300 stores all over the US. If you want a more refined and elegant look than discover Pali. Pali is an Italian brand that makes lovely baby furniture that would look great in any nursery. Pali offers baby furniture in a wide array of classic looks and their furniture is very comfortable for babies and small children to use.
Another great brand to try out is Delta Baby Furniture which combines a great look with high quality. Their products last for many years and you can pass them on to your grandkids to use! You will want to buy their products if you want something really durable. They have bassinets, changing tables, toddler beds, strollers/walkers, and portable cribs. The Jardine baby furniture company can give you a great assortment of rocking chairs, toddler beds, and tables to choose from. They have great products and good prices.
Once you have your furniture all sorted then you can decorate your nursery as you wish. Do the furniture part first and then work on the walls and the wall hangings. You'll want to have the furniture selected before you choose the décor since it is the most important part of the room.

Nursery decoration? How shall I do the nursery when I dont know the sex?
I’m about to decorate the nursery and dont know what I’m having…I thought I’d paint the walls cream….but what other colours would be nice? I dont mind doing one wall a colour…but I’d prefer a simple scheme?
Yellow.

y not take an ultra sound thereby u can know what sex the baby has… then u can decorate the room…
References :
A warm buttery yellow would be lovely – with Winnie the Pooh bits and bobs. Perfect for either sex.
References :
Yellows a beautiful sunny colour, and makes the room look bright and cheerful whatever the weather.
References :
get an animal or an alphabet boarder
References :
light green, lime color is quite nice. You could make one wall lime and the others white…
References :
If you go to babiesrus.com or potterybarnkids.com, or even poshtots.com, there are links for unisex nursery schemes. Yellows, greens, even light blues are fine for either sex. Red, brown, the possibilities are endless. I personally like dark chocolate brown with baby blue–you could paint a wall the baby blue color. That’d be cute for a boy or a girl.
References :
I used a jungle theme with nuetral colors it could go boy or girl they have some of the cutest baby decorations. have fun with it
References :
What about a light yellow?

A newborn’s vision is most acute at around 30cm so the decoration in the nursery is for you not them. I suggest a neutral colour like the cream you mention and then add to it as your child grows and you learn together about their interests. Meantime, you could get an interesting mobile or cot buffers to entertain them while they wait for sleep.
Good luck with your new family.

Soft colours…green, yellow…teddy bear brown…

i think the tan would be nice
or maybe you stencil some baby
stars around the top

there are tons of great schemes you can do that would be fine for either gender, i did my sons room in teddy bears ( i collect boyds bears) before i knew i was having a boy…. what i did was i went to lots of baby stores and just checked out all the displays they had set up, you dont have to buy all their ridiculously expensive stuff but it could give you a great idea! good luck and congrats!

I know what we are having, but I am keep the room decor neutral. I painted the walls a cappucino color, with crackle painting on the door and around the window frame (peach & cappucino). I plan to do a zoo/jungle theme in the room (softer colors). Good Luck!

Cream colours look nice with wooden furniture, alot of baby shops sell cream and brown bedding. Toyrs R Us have nice ranges.
References :
Try a light-colored green — it’s a great color for a little boy OR a little girl, and it will match nicely with pink or blue.
References :
Yellow.
Also, look at "neutral" infants’ bedding etc, you will find all shades of brown are quite in vogue.

I am doing a really light green on the walls. I have a dresser that needs to be painted and I had a gift card to a hardware store that had to be used by the end of this month so I got one can of blue paint and one of purple and will paint the dresser accordingly when we find out. Personally I think light blue is fine for either a girl or a boy. If you have a girl you can always add some girly decorations later.

I painted my nursery yellow and put up a freeze that has lions and giraffes and elephants on it (from Toys R Us). My little boy loves it!
References :
cream to me sounds good, why not team it with a border of some kind, at least keeping it cream should you want to paint it again once you have had your child it should be easy enough to cover without having to do loads of overcoats…good luck with your baby
References :
Mint and yellow is lovely together – either a border or curtains etc., – then it does not matter xx (good luck)
References :
You could paint it yellow, that’s nice but still cute for any sex. Yes cream is nice and if you paint it white, then you can put in any colours you want, so I suppose it could be the same with cream, but they would have to be warmer colours. Nice and Congratulations!

My friend just did hers in light yellow with a Winnie the Pooh theme, it’s very cute.
References :
A nice pale mint green. Then when the baby is born you can add either blue or pink accessories.
References :
i would do it white. baby/pale green is a good colour too. maybe do a rainbow theme. all the coours u can imagine. kids will love it plus it can b suitable for a boy or a girly!!
References :
x. mint green, lemon and cream can make a nice room, done that for my daughter when she was pregnant, and put winnie the pooh in the as they arehis colours as well and my grandson loves his room. Good luck on the new baby. x
References :
Lemon, purple shade, pale green, cream. these will go with both shades. When my mum was expecting me she was told I was a boy she decorated my room blue, out came me and i was a girl!!! good luck with the birth

Babies respond to contrast more than colour, so any kind of big bold patterns would be good. Maybe have cream/white walls and one red wall or red blinds. Put up some black and white mobiles over the crib and maybe have a zebra stripe rug! It’s unusual, I know, but your baby will respond to that more than to pastels.
References :
If you don’t know the sex of the baby or don’t want to know — I really lke the Winnie the Pooh and Noah’s Ark Nursery themes!
References :
Good for you! The mystery of a baby’s sex is wonderful, so I am so glad that you have decided not to know in advance. I would agree that yellow is a nice neutral colour for either sex. You can always re-do it later once you know if it’s action men or barbie dolls! (pardon the stereotypes!!)
References :
I didn’t know the sex of my first baby. I bought a crib that was white with different colored pastel bars. The comforter was white dotted Swiss with pastel colored satin balloons. The carpet was off-white & cream with soft stripes of pastel colors. The curtins were white with pictures of giant crayons.
Once HE arrived, I added blues to the room. It was gorgeous! Have fun!

It should be easy, do a lovely yellow or cream on the walls, and have brightly coloured pictures up, and a patchwork quilt with matching curtains! It should be fun, relax!

white with black dots.

Babies like bright colors- cream is a great neutral color, and you can acessorize with bright pillows, blankets, and other decor. I would stick to all the walls being the same color, but if you want a bit of color on the walls, borders are cute. Baby Depot (online and inside Burlington Coat Factory) has a lot of really cute (and some-what inexpensive) baby items, and lots of them are non-gender specific. Good luck decorating! Have lot’s of fun! And congrats on the baby to be!

What about doing a "sky" look. You could paint the walls a blue shade and either buy cloud decals or use cheesecloth and some white paint to create your own. Or you could use a darker blue and stencil stars onto the top of the wall.
Almost any bedding set would match with that. And if you start with a unisex bedding set but want to make it sex specific in the future, the sky theme would blend with nearly anything.

You could do just a simple color scheme with no real ‘pattern’… you can do a pale yellow and mint green… I love those colors together. They have crib bedding in those colors, and you can mix match it a little bit. If you wanted to do like a certain pattern, some gender neutral choices are you can do it in froggies
, and ocean theme, you can do Teddy bears, the disney characters, winnie the pooh…. all of those are good for either a boy or a girl. You could just do the walls cream, like you said you were going to do, and put up a colored or patterned border on the wall. Good luck on chosing your nursery theme…
I know its difficult to decide.

Nice soft pastel colours, just don’t pick blue & pink.
References :
I’d do all pastels – light yellow, green, blue, pink. Maybe find some kind of gender-neutral plaid and base your decorations off that. Or just primary colors – bright reds, blues, and yellows.
Good Luck!

hi, my friend had the same problem and she decided to decorate her nursery using a ‘jungle theme’, pale oranges and blues, greens and yellow, with some really cute stencils. She bought lots of cute cuddly toys like the ones in the links below. it sounds a bit ‘iffy’ (if thats a word!!) but it works really well and its great for both boys and girls. congratulations and good luck

my daughter painted her nursery cream with just one mint coloured wall then added a few peter rabbit stickers on the ones that peel off so you can change when you feel like it .and it looked lovely and simple with just nice accessories

I went with a cream yellow for the walls and a Beatrix Potter theme. They stopped making Beatrix Potter nursery decor a few years ago so it was fun shopping for items online & at thrift/antique stores. I ended up spending about 30% less on unique bedding (still new in package) than I would have if I had bought at a Babiesrus or elsewhere. I offset the walls with soft green accents: curtains, hamper, diaper pad cover, etc. It is so soothing & relaxing. The room has an overall vintage feel to it. Perfect for a boy or a girl.
Best of luck to you & have fun!! Decorating was the most fun I have had throughout my pregnancy. =)

You don’t WANT to know?? Or you don’t know YET.. If you don’t have a problem with finding out, then just wait until you’re 5 months along and find out! THen you’ll know exactly how to decorate..
If you want to be surprised, then personally I prefer a nice pastel green for a unisex color, rather than yellow. Yellow to me has always been a feminine color.. I’ve never considered it unisex.. That’s just me.
Maybe a classic winnie the poo theme with cream and a nice green that would look nice for a boy or girl..
Congrats!! My sis-in law just had a little boy 4 weeks ago!! But she knew he was a boy since she was 5 months along.. She knew with her 3-year-old (girl) too…

you could do it yellow cream or mint green and cream can,t go wrong with these colours

Presumably you’ve had the sex, which is why you need the nursery?

I painted cream and sage green. We are decorating with baby animals — so it will be appropriate for a boy or girl.
Best of luck!

I’ve done my nursery a light yellow.
Its the Zeddy & Parsnip range from mama’s and papa’s.

I was gunno do it cream but i thought it was to plain, dull and everyone else seems to do theirs cream when they dunno what they are having.
I thought the light yellow looked nice and brightened the room up.
It’s the Lemon Topics coloured paint from B&Q.

Im having the same problem! im thinking of doing 2 of the walls in a s’sunnier’ type yellow and the other 2 in a paler yellow tinged white kind of colour. Have considered greens also. Maybe get some paint samples?

Also bear in mind that the baby is probably best in your room for the first few months. We set up a nursery and didn;t use it at all for the first year.
