How much is too much to spend on baby furniture ?
My husband and I are planning our first child and while i know we have some time to go before we need a crib and changing table and all that we want to know just how much we should be saving based on our income. I LOVE pottery barn baby but their stuff is very pricey , ( if i want he'll buy it ) but there is also that Da vinci nursery line and it is as nice but it is priced better and it isn't ugly. Can anyone help ?
We plan on having 3 three children ... all the cribs I'm looking at are convertible into bigger beds so ill just have to buy another crib later , but thats only with the first two children after that i don't want them sharing rooms
It depends on your income. Just remember, what you plan might not happen. I was planning to have four but after one, I am like uhhhhh maybe just two. LOL. Also, if you plan to hand it down and use it for all kids then why not splurge if you have the funds - just make sure to get neutral tones for different sexes. Also, I personally think changing table is a waste. I have yet to change baby on a changing table.

I just want to let you know, having a child is a big joy. But don’t buy anything that your baby is going to use on a daily basis that is expensive. it will break, trust me. I have two!, kids that is and I learned after my first.

price has nothing to do with function. you can find nice and affordable things at most low end stores like sears even, or ikea, or target. as long as it is sturdy, safe, and efficient it doesn’t matter. the baby wont care, and unless you plan on showing off to meterialistic snobby "friends"..who cares? idk many people who use half the stuss they get and are out the $ in the first year. idk who you are trying to please but spend the money on diapers, not pretty stuff

think of it this way…babies grow out of everything fast… we spent about $500 on the whole nursery, including crib, changing station, bedding, dresser, and book shelf… we got it all from target with all the gift cards we got… the crib turns into a toddler bed, so that will last a while.. but spend what you can afford…congrats and good luck!!!

For a crib it’s a good idea to invest a little more (around $250-$300) to get a lifetime on. It’s will convert to a toddler bed, a day bed and then a full size bed. Then you don’t have to worry when he gets a little older. The changing table, you can buy one that has a good amount of drawers, so it’s a dresser to… but as far as the nursery goes, I’d say decide on a theme first…and then look around and see what you like best, it may not even be by pottery barn or anything like that. You’d be suprised what you can find by googling your theme.
Don’t get so caught up on what brands you seem to like because there will probably be things that you like better that are some off brand.
Don’t go looking for the priciest things because it’ll get dirty really fast, and maybe stained…

I recommend checking for a "Once Upon A Child" store in your area. Call & ask about the least busy time, then come in at that time to ask. These people see a lot of baby furniture come & go. They can fill you in on which items/brands get recalled most, what is most durable, what is junk, etc.

You can also browse the store & consider buying gently used brand name items for less.
Also, check for certified babyproofers in your area. They can fill you in even more, especially regarding safety.

I have found many high-end baby & children’s items have unsafe "frills" added that are covenient for parents, but unsafe for baby.
One last thing – try volunteering in the baby room of a church or non-profit daycare several times. You will get priceless info, and find out what "essentials" you don’t really want or need. You may have to fill out paperwork & have your background checked, but it is worth it – you will get the REAL dirt.
