Choosing Baby Bedding

If you are reading this article then I am sure that you or some of your family member must be soon having a baby. Now one can start planning what to do for the new family member, the nursery for the baby has to be very comfortable.
You must remember that your baby will spend the major part of the day in bed, sleeping. Therefore, it is important that the baby bedding you provide your child is comfortable, as well as easy to maintain. It also depends on ones budget on whether what one should buy. You can choose between luxury bedding by some famous designer or even something available at the departmental store.

Before you make this decision, determine how much you can afford to spend. If a crib bedding set falls a little over your budget, you still have options.

Let's face one fact about this, the baby wouldn't care as to what he or she is sleeping on so you might as well please yourself. Though one must keep in mind that the baby cannot speak thus the parent has to take utmost care of his or her comfort.

No matter who is buying the crib bedding the baby's gender is likely to be an issue. Even though parents don't want to adhere to gender stereotypes, most people expecting a little girl aren't going to choose the macho type set for her room rather you would prefer to choose a Barbie or something very girlie.
Various parameters must be kept in mind while choosing the bedding ?

? Size ? Check the size of the crib you have bought. It is important that the mattress will fairly fit right on the crib. There should not be any obvious gap from the frame of the crib to the mattress

? Firmness - It is advisable to look for a firmer mattress for your baby. Most of the time, the adults would prefer a soft mattress. However, babies will need a surface that is more solid because they cannot move their heads on soft mattresses in case they get to turn over.

? Cover - A cover that is highly durable is multi-layered. There are crib mattresses that have anti-microbial top layers to help fight germs coming from diaper accidents and split-ups. You may also check and see how the covers of the mattresses are being sealed.

? Baby Standards - As parents, it is a good time to use your creativity in beautifying your baby's room. However, your responsibility does not end there. Choosing your baby's stuff is equally important. And you have to keep in mind that the safety of your baby is the utmost priority and not the cost.

Also frilly pillows or stuffed animals and toys may look adorable in your child's crib, but the research suggests that anything soft is a suffocation hazard. Babies do not need pillows under their heads. Keep the pretty pillows and cute stuffed toys on the dresser or changing table, and leave the crib bare.

In the end one must pay attention on the color. Pink for a girl and blue for a boy and pastels everywhere used to be the traditional theme for children's bedding.

So keep all the above factors in mind before you go out for baby shopping.

Why do mothers choose only ONE baby bedding for a nursery and/or crib?
I’ve thought about this for quite some time but I never came up with a good enough answer. Why is it that mothers (parents) when having a baby they only choose one type of bedding for the nursery? I find it odd that you wouldn’t have at least three different sets. I have at least 4 different bed in a bags (all within the same color scheme) for each bedroom. I always find it weird that a baby would have to be stuck with only one bedding set. Is it primarily just a money thing?

Why do you need so many? I only have 1 bed in a bag for our master room, but i have plenty of blankets. As for my baby im doing the same thing. She will have one bed in a bag but plenty of differant blankets. Maybe you have the money but i dont have a couple hundred dollars sitting around for bed sheets! lol But yea i would say the reason people only have one is a money thing.

Well, sure. I mean, why have 4 when the baby doesn’t care? That seems like conspicuous consumption. I would just buy a crib bumper and then have like 3 crib sheets in complementary colors (because there are nights with newborns where they might actually soil 2 and you’ll NEED that 3rd sheet-glad THOSE days are over!)

I would think it is a money thing for sure. We are pregnant and happy about it. I would like at least two sets that will match the color scheme

Having several bedding sets isn’t necessary. You should, of course, have several sheet sets, but the comforter (baby’s aren’t even supposed to be put to bed with blankets), bumper, and skirt aren’t items that get used/soiled that often. I certainly don’t have 3 comforters for my bedroom. That’s why we have washing machines.

I’m not really sure what you’re asking, but I would only get one bedskirt. They can’t use the bumper or the blanket, so really it’s just the skirt and sheet. Most people have more than one sheet in case theirs gets dirty. I also don’t have 4 sets for myself–I love my comforter and sheets. Now, I have two different sets of sheets, but the comforter is the same. I think it’s weird to have a bunch of different bedding sets. For some it might be a money issue, but not everyone. Some people are just more picky :-)

I have a lot of fitted crib sheets in many different colors, but I only bought one "bedding set" because babies aren’t supposed to sleep with a quilt anyway, so I hung it on the wall as decoration.

Money and storage would be the issue. I just do not have the room for all that linen.

Why on earth do you need 4??? We always had the crib bumper (a different one for each of our kids). And then like 3 or 4 matching sheets to change when necessary or as needed. They don’t need 4 complete sets – bumper, skirt, everything. Do you really think they care??
As for the bedroom, we have one comforter that we use as well as blankets underneath that we mix and match during the seasons. I have spare comforters. But I don’t go around changing the entire freakin bedroom around. I am busy – work full time and have 3 kids – I honestly don’t have time for that….

I only have one bedding set, why would he need more then that? I just have about 5 crib sheets that match it, but why would I need another bumper and everything?

When he gets older, then I would buy a new one, but I still don’t think he would need a bunch of bedding, as long as you have plenty of blankets. I think having more then 2 bedding sets for a crib is a little ridiculous, especially when you’re coordinating with other things in the room, like a lamp, mobile, etc. That’s alot of unecessary stuff to buy. Really, just even having that much bedding is uneccesary.

well, you probably have 4 different sets because typically "bed in a bag" sets are on the cheap side!
I have 5 different sheets that coordinate with her bedding set that I switch around but that is it. With a newborn, I don’t have the time to change the bumper and bed skirt "just because" I would much rather spend that time with my daughter.

You’re forgetting that the baby doesn’t care. He can’t even SEE (20/20 vision) until he’s 8 months old….. why would he care what’s in his room?
It’s really just for the parents. And believe me, taking care of an infant is difficult enough – I don’t need to change the theme of his room every other week….
