The Perfect Baby Shower Gifts

The day of the baby shower is just around the corner, and you're still wracking your brain, hoping to figure out the right kind of gift to buy for the expecting mother. With so many options out there, where should you start? Gift registries, gift idea magazines, even articles such as this have so many ideas to throw at you, that it's quite easy to get overwhelmed. Well, you should try and start simply. First, consider the big ticket items that are very popular as baby shower gifts. Cribs, bassinets, Moses baskets, and other furniture items are popular choices for gifts for a baby shower. Of course, these items are somewhat expensive, so in many cases it is the close family member or friends of the mother to be that purchase them. Or, party guests may get together and purchase a playpen, car seat, recliner or other high-priced baby shower gift as a group present. More economical choices for baby shower gifts are popular for obvious reasons. It's always nice to be able to give the mommy-to-be your very own present, one that is just from you, will be enjoyed, but won't necessarily send you over budget. These types of gifts for a baby shower include such essentials as diaper bags, travel packs for the car, baby wipe warmers, diaper pails, crib bedding sets, baby monitors, bottle warmers, slings and baby carriers. Finally, there is quite a list of low-end baby shower gifts that don't cost a lot, but definitely provide the recipient with function and appeal. Packages of diapers, diaper organizers and changing table organizers, books on parenting and babies, baby toiletries like nail clippers and brushes and combs, bibs, bottles and pacifiers, other eating utensils like plates and bowls, and toys and soft, plush animals. Of course, you don't necessarily have to purchase pre-manufactured and pre-packaged baby shower gifts. If you really know the interests and preferences of the expecting mother, consider putting together a care package for her, her baby or even both of them. If she is planning on breastfeeding, skip the purchase of bottles, and instead assemble a care package that contains supplies and essentials for breastfeeding. The same approach could be used for a woman who is planning on using cloth diapers for her baby. Your choice of baby shower gifts for her might be a package of cloth diapers and covers. Remember, no matter what you choose to purchase for your choice of a baby shower gift, be sure to remove price tags and include a gift receipt before the day of the shower.

Safety Standards Change Each Year for Cribs

With expecting a new baby, make sure your coordinate the nursery colors and the crib plus make sure the crib meet all safety standards so you sleep at night without worrying. A crib needs to be safe and secure and so when you put the baby down you feel calm that your baby is in a safe and comfortable place. If you receive a crib from someone be grateful for it but make sure it is safe because the older it is the less safe it is.

In todays market there are so many different brands and they range in price, the most important thing you need to do before purchasing is to make sure it meets all safety requirements and standards. Most organizations concerned with baby furniture safety, insist that everyone purchases new beds or cribs, because as time goes on the safety requirements change over time and the older products do not meet the standards. Many doctors and people have advice on how to place your child in the baby crib, what position on the mattress, this changes every couple of years so make sure you talk to your doctor to find out what is the new approach. Are there safety standards for baby cribs? Baby cribs that are manufactured today have to meet minimum safety standards which are set by the Consumer Products Safety commission (CPSC). The bedding needs to comply with the standards set fourth, the bedding will need to hypoallergenic and the fabrics will need to be soft with a high thread count.

If you are purchasing a customized or an odd shaped crib you will need to order a special mattress that fits the crib and you also need to consider the sheets will need to be customized. Finding the proper height for the baby mattress is important because you will be the one putting the baby in and out and you don't want to strain yourself. Bounce it off the mattress to be certain it will hold its position. When using bumper pads or any type of pillow make sure they are placed on the edges so it only protects the baby from hitting the sides, if the have the ability to tie, tie them to the railing so they won't fall.

Normally selling for less than $200 for a four-piece set, it appears reasonably priced as compared to competing brands of crib bedding of similar quality and design. You not only want to create a comforting nursery with quality and durable bedding but you also desire to create a loving and peaceful atmosphere for your little one. As a mother to be you know how important it is to decide on the crib you desire for your baby’s nursery and of course the baby crib bedding sets that will adorn the crib.

Nurseries do not have to be filled with just color, you can decorate the nursery so you can present certain themes of learning so the baby will have hours of learning thru site recognition, sound and lights. Normally babies in their first year will sleep more than 72% of the time, so getting a good mattress is important so the infant or baby sleeps comfortably.

“Always Keep Safety First for Baby Nursery Decoration”

Babies are always a source of joy and the excitement is often heightened when you start shopping for items for the baby nursery decoration.

You should try to plan on the theme of your baby nursery and have some idea of what items you are going to need and of course the items you know you just want for your precious new baby.

One of the first pieces of furniture most parents look for is the baby nursery crib.  These days there are so many choices in baby cribs that it can sometimes be a little confusing and overwhelming.

While the new round cribs are elegant, eye catching and among the safest cribs available, there is sometimes the need to choose based on the investment and the growth of your child.

The convertible cribs that are available today can be set up as day beds. toddler beds, twin beds and some now can be converted into full size beds by making use of the side rails as the headboard and footboard.  This of course means you can change the look and feel of your baby nursery decoration with more options and choices.

The safest way to ensure your baby will be safe in your choice of cribs is of course to buy a new one but if that is not possible, you will want to check that all parts are intact and that all screws, nuts, bolts, and any other safety features are secure.  This includes making sure the mattress you choose fits your crib correctly and that it will hold even as your baby begins to grow and gain weight.

One way to check the safety and security of the mattress is to take an object that weighs in the area of 20-30 pounds and place it inside the crib or even better to drop it heavily into the crib to test that the mattress will hold it's position.

Another item you may want to invest in for your baby nursery decoration is a changing table for your baby and these are also made to last and grow as your baby grows.  Changing tables can be turned into 3 drawer dresser or chests.  You will find that if you choose the correct furniture for your nursery decoration that you will be able to change the room's decor as your baby starts getting bigger, sometimes even into their teens.

Remember to always keep in mind the safety and security of your new baby.  Whether you are buying used or new furniture check every detail and make sure all screws are tight and secure, all brackets and or other hardware on the baby furniture is installed safely and correctly.

A few minutes or so of inspection is a wise investment both financially and for the protection of your child. You can never be too careful or too picky when it comes to the safety of your new baby and the first place to start is with your baby nursery decoration.

Different Types of Baby Crib?

The terminology used in describing baby cribs can be confusing. Manufacturers don't make it any easier either and often give their own name to a more generic term. What follows is a concise definition of the different types of baby cribs that are available.
The main difference between a bassinet and a cradle is that a bassinet is placed in a stand and is stationary. For more help visit to: www.create-super-baby.com. A cradle is usually designed so that it can be rocked back and forth. Many parents will choose to use either one of these after the birth of the child as these have low sides and are very easy and convenient to use. When the baby reaches 3 or 4 months of age it's time for other sleeping arrangements.

Sometimes referred to as a conventional baby crib, this type usually comes with single or double drop sides making it easy to put in and take out a small baby. As this has drop sides there's no need to adjust mattress height. The Jenny Lind is a good example of this type of crib. A standard baby crib is usually quite cheap to buy and will serve your baby until about the age of two.

This sort has become quite fashionable in recent years. Many parents say that this type uses less space than a traditional one. These types of cribs can be rather expensive.
Sometimes referred to as a bonnet crib, this is for those who like a 'fairytale' or 'princess' look. The canopy serves no real purpose except for 'presentation'. Again, they are more expensive than traditional models.
There are two types: 3-in-1 and lifetime. The 3-1-in baby crib can be converted from crib, to toddler bed, to day bed. These convert by simply removing one side of the crib. Some brands come with optional straight rails that can be used on the toddler bed - they help in preventing the baby from rolling out. Some 3-in-1 models also come with storage drawers. Lifetime cribs can also be converted to full size beds, which mean a child can use it until their early teens. This type does cost more but they can save money in the long run.
These are second hand cribs that have been used by another baby. Whilst it may seem a good idea to use or buy one of these, the advice from most safety organizations is never to buy a used crib. For more detail go to: www.babies-tips.com.Ones that were made a number of years ago may not have the safety features that are required today. If you do buy a used baby crib, use the following guidelines.

Convertible Cribs – Cradling your Sweet Baby Through the Tender Years

Over the last several years, convertible cribs have become a popular choice among expectant parents. Because convertible cribs are easily converted from a crib to a toddler bed, twin bed, full-size bed, or day bed, families are increasingly making this choice for their sweet little bundles of joy. Besides the cost saving benefits of a convertible crib, there is comfort for every new parent when they know that their child is sleeping comfortably and peacefully.

As the name suggests, convertible cribs allow you to alter your baby’s crib after he or she has outgrown it. Most parents find this time easily identifiable as their child has made an attempt to climb out of their crib. Manufacturers also suggest that your crib should be converted once your child reaches 35”. The time to make the switch is certainly dependent on each individual child but can be as early as 15 months and as late as 2 ½.

From Convertible Crib to Toddler Bed ~ Easing the Transition for Everyone

It is common for most of us to sleep best when in a familiar environment. It is no different for a young child. Often, convertible cribs change to toddler beds using the safety bed rails. Many come with conversion kits that make this easy for the consumer. The crib mattress can also be used with the toddler bed, which saves money for the family. It is important to read carefully any information that comes with a convertible crib that is being considered for purchasing to ensure that the proper materials and tools are included.

Convertible Cribs can also be turned into full-size beds. Full-size mattresses and frames are all that is needed to make this transition. Typically, these do have to be purchased separately. Choosing a convertible crib that can become a full-size bed is advantageous because of the longevity that it provides. Some of these types of cribs are versatile and can be switched from a crib to a toddler bed or day bed, and then to a headboard and footboard for a full-size bed.

Safety Standards to Look for In Convertible Cribs

Safety is at the top of a new parent’s list of priorities. Choosing a crib that meets these standards is paramount. JPMA is a certification program that guides parents and caregivers in making wise choices in regard to safety of juvenile products. Convertible cribs that meet these standards will have this listed in their descriptions or features. Hardwood frames and recessed hardware are two components that are important factors to your baby’s safety. The most popular convertible baby cribs meet and most often exceed safety standards. Again, reading product information and customer reviews are excellent resources for parents in determining if a convertible crib is best for their baby and also for them.

Expression of Individual Tastes and Styles

The makers of convertible cribs have kept in mind that all new parents have their own tastes and styles. Convertible Cribs come in an assortment of finishes such as white, natural, cherry, caramel, amber, and more. Some are even available in pick or blue. There are also many different types of convertible cribs that can match any style preferences you may have. Parents who have already created their nursery may choose a convertible crib which complements the décor. Other expectant families may choose to purchase the crib first and create the nursery around the style of the crib.

A convertible crib will provide a welcome place to rest your child’s precious head each night. The versatility and familiarity of a convertible crib will comfort your child for many years to come as they grow.

Baby Cribs Safety Tips for Young Moms

Baby Cribs Safety Tips

Crib Design

Dispose of antique baby cribs with decorative cutouts, corner posts or lead paint. The space between the slats should be no more than 2-3/8 inches apart to prevent infants from getting their head stuck between them. Cribs manufactured after 1974 must meet this and other strict safety standards. The corner posts should be the same height as the end panels or less than 1/16 of an inch higher than the end panels.

No cut-out areas on the headboard or foot board so a baby's head cannot get trapped. The top rails of crib sides, in their raised position, should be at least 26 inches above the top of the mattress support at its lowest position.

As soon as the child can pull himself to a standing position, set and keep the mattress at its lowest position. Stop using the crib once the height of the top rails is less than three-fourths of the child's height.

Mattress

The mattress should fit snugly next to the crib so that there is no gap. If two adult fingers can be placed between the mattress and the crib, the mattress should be immediately replaced. Do not use plastic packaging materials, such as dry cleaning bags, as mattress covers. Plastic film can cling to children's faces and should never be in or near the crib.

Put your baby to sleep on his or her back or side in a crib with a firm, flat mattress and no soft bedding underneath. Talk to your pediatrician about which sleeping position is best for you child.

Crib Hardware

The drop side(s) of the crib should require two distinct actions or a minimum force of ten pounds with one action to release the latch or the locks to prevent accidental release by the child.

The crib hardware should be checked for disengaged, broken, bent or loose pieces. Special checks should be made of the mattress support hangers and brackets so they cannot drop. The hardware and the crib should be smooth and free of sharp edges, points and rough surfaces.

Crib Accessories

Bumper pads should cover the entire inside perimeter of the crib and tie or snap in place. Bumper pads should have at least six straps or ties and any excess length of straps or ties should be cut off. Bumper pads should never be used in lieu of proper spacing between the slats and should be removed from the crib as soon as the child can pull himself to a standing position.

Teething rails that are damaged should be fixed, replaced or removed immediately. To prevent possible entanglement, mobiles and crib gyms, which are meant to be hung over or across the crib, should be removed when the child is five months old or when he begins to push up onto hands and knees or can pull himself up. Keep the crib clear of plastic sheets, pillows, and large stuffed animals or toys. These can be suffocation hazards or can enable youngsters to climb out of the crib. Any cloth or vinyl items that are loose or torn should be replaced or repaired immediately.

Crib Environment

Do not place crib next to a window. Drapery and blind cords pose an entanglement hazard and window screens are not intended to keep a child in, only insects out. Install smoke detectors. Follow the manufacturer's directions for placement. Check at least once a month to make sure battery and smoke detector are in good working condition.
