am I crazy?

We have a 2 year old, with a full size crib and a toddler bed. We also have a 7 mo old who is sleeping in the crib, what we want to do is buy 2 mini cribs(going with the same furniture for all the growing up time means we can splurge a bit on dresser and rocking chair) so we can turn them into singles later on, when our 7 mo old outgrows it he can go into the toddler bed and we can turn it to a single, then when the next baby outgrows the other(we are due in feb) we will turn it into a single for our 7 mo old son and the baby will get the toddler bed, space is what the issue is here we bought the house and found out our birth control had not worked as well as we thought and so now have 2 small childrens bedrooms and neither fits 2 cribs and a changing table and rocker comfortably but with the length decrease on the mini crib we can fit it all in here is the crib i am looking at http://www.minitots.com/store/detail~Da-Vinci-_2525.htm

Those look like a great solution, although I was see if you can get a matress to fit inside of it, as the one it has probably wont be best. Price usually ='s quality.

Choosing a crib that turns into a bed is a very smart choice when you will have 3 young children. Also keeping them the same will help.

I think it is a great idea. You can sell the full sized crib and toddler bed now aswell, and put it towards getting all the beds matching.

Your quesiton was a little hard to follow with the childrens ages etc etc, but we get the point. Small amount of space, 3 children. You can also co-sleep with new baby until the other children are out of a crib and into a single bed. This might save some cash and space that you all seem to need right now!

Have fun with all the love!

A mobile that will fit a convertible crib?

Has anyone found a mobile that will fit on a convertible crib that has thick rails? I have tried 2, and had to return both. It doesn't matter the theme or pattern, I just want one that is secure and won't fall on baby.

Consider a Baby Crib Combo Set For the Nursery

Image via Wikipedia

When choosing furniture for your baby, your options are limitless. Many families buy a whole set, and some decide that there are parts and pieces that they can live without at the time, or there are things that can wait for a later date. Nursery furniture can be pretty expensive if you go out and buy an entire set at any retail outlet. There are some choices that can help save money and make life a little easier if you have limited funds or limited space for your new baby. Think about a baby crib combo that works just as well as any nursery set.

A baby crib combo is typically a crib that has something attached and comes as just one piece. These are often convertible, meaning they change as the child grows, saving money in the long run on not just having to throw out things, but changing things that the child outgrows to something they need when they are older. One typical type of this combo would be the crib with storage on the side. This can be used instead of a separate dresser and crib. The drawers or shelves can be used for clothes and then used for something else later, like books or toys.

Another type of baby crib combo would be the changing table that comes attached to the crib. The changing table is something that is only used for about two years, or until baby is potty trained. It can still be useful after that for changing clothes, but most babies are too big to lie on them comfortably after the age of two. Some outgrow them sooner. If you find a crib with a changing table attached, you have something that you can then use for something else later.

The changing table is just part of this type of baby crib combo. Beneath the table can be shelves, drawers, and in some cases, a laundry bin that can be taken in and out of the set. The table can later be used for toys or as a bedside stand. The laundry bin can still be used for laundry, or can later be used as a toy box. The shelves can be used for whatever the baby or toddler then needs. Some of these detach and can be used anywhere in the room. If the crib converts to a toddler and then full sized bed, the table turns into anything you wish. It really is a great choice for saving space and money in the long run.

There are other baby crib combo sets that you can buy. See what is out there and then choose what works best for you. One of the best places to find these is online, though there may be some in your local baby stores. Keep in mind that most have to be put together, and these are a bit more complicated than a single crib, but the extra time and effort is well worth it. Your combo set can change with your child if you choose something that grows with your baby into different bed sizes. You may pay a bit more now, but you save a whole lot more over time.

How To Purchase A Safe Baby Crib

How To Purchase A Safe Baby Crib

Babies are a wonderful addition to any family, but can add up to a lot of added expense. One of the most expensive items that you will purchase for your baby is a baby crib. It can also be one of the most dangerous.

When searching for one of these pieces of baby furniture, you should keep in mind that according to some statistics, approximately 50 infant deaths and 9000 infant injuries occur each year in crib-related accidents. Because of these facts, you should always check to ensure that any crib that you may want purchase is safe for your baby.

There are several safety features that you should look for when purchasing a new baby crib. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has enacted regulations to ensure the safety of your baby while in these beds. You should make sure that any baby crib that you may purchase has these specifications. The first regulation states that the vertical bars or slats should be no further apart than 2 3/8" or 60 mm. This prevents the baby's body being able to fit through them and the child becoming lodged by his head.

A second regulation deals with holes or decorative cutouts on the headboard. These should not exceed 2 3/8" also to avoid your child's head being stuck. Purchasing a crib with a solid head board is probably the best way to go.

The third regulation by the Commission suggests that you check to make sure that none of the vertical bars on a crib side are broken off. You should be sure that all the bars in the crib are sturdy and intact. Any missing bars will leave a big gap that can cause your child to slip through and fall to the floor.

Other safety issues that are not addressed by the Commission but are still important for the safety of your baby include baby cribs that come equipped with wheels. A new baby crib on roller wheels may seem like a good purchase. However, there are certain factors that you need to consider when looking at this style. If your house has hardwood floors, the slightest bump will cause the crib to begin rolling. The crib will also roll if you lean against it as you are bending over your baby. Older siblings can also be a danger to the baby in a crib with wheels. Your other children may push it around, causing it to overturn or slide down stairs. You can purchase a baby crib on wheels that has a locking mechanism, but it is probably a better idea to avoid this style completely.

Another valuable safety tip is to check to ensure that the crib mattress fits inside the crib properly. The standard mattress size for a crib is 51 5/8" by 27 ¼", although some cribs on the market today do not use the standard size. To check to make sure that the crib mattress is the right size for the crib, place your fingers between the mattress and the crib sides. If you can fit two fingers side by side, the mattress is too large and may enable your baby to slide between the mattress and the crib side and end up with the mattress on top of him. Mattress firmness is also important. As soft mattresses have been linked with Sudden Infants Death Syndrome you should make sure that your baby's mattress is firm and solid.

Buying a baby crib can be one of the most important purchases you can make. By completing the safety checks that were previously discussed you will be able to purchase the safest baby crib possible.

Types of Baby Crib ? Finding the Right Crib for Your Baby

For new parents, a crib is a necessary investment to provide a comfortable and safe place for the baby to sleep in. But with so many choices out there today, what is the best type of crib for your baby?

The answer would very much depend on your budget, needs and space availability. Let us look at the different types of baby cribs in the market today and see how they can fit your needs:

Canopy Cribs

Canopy cribs are very much a fashion statement more for decor purposes. From simple to elaborate designs, the cost of a canopy crib can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. Simply put, it is a luxury that new parents may want to splurge on their baby. For instance, you can have a round canopy crib with a dome design at the top or a square crib with beautiful carvings on the four posters and canopy cross bars. Because you can have all the features that come with a standard crib plus the elegance, buy a canopy crib if you want a feel of luxury and romance.

Round Cribs

Although this crib is gaining popularity, it is rather expensive and most of the designs are of the high-end. They also tend to come with a canopy which can give your nursery a very stylish look. Just like canopy cribs, they are about style and elegance. But there is one other reason why you would want a round crib and that is it can be a focal point of the room. Because it is round, you do not have to put it in a corner but at the center of your nursery. If your nursery is small, a round crib may be the answer to optimize space.

Standard Cribs

This is the most common crib available in the market and you can probably get a no-frills one for about 0. Some parents are not so willing to spend too much on a crib because you would need to move your baby out of the crib and onto a toddler bed roughly at 18 months of age. Some delay the transition until their baby is past two but it all depends on the safety aspect once your child reaches a certain height. For standard cribs, you have a wide variety of choices in terms of brands, features and price range which means you are bound to find one that suits your needs and budget.

Portable Cribs

Portable cribs are foldable and make great alternatives in a caretaker’s home or for travel. You can also consider this type of crib if your room has a lack of space. It is smaller than a full-sized crib but it makes it up in terms of convenience. For instance, most assembled portable cribs would be able to fit through standard doorways. This means you can easily push a portable crib from one room to another without much hassle. If this convenience is what you are looking for, then you might like a portable crib. However, the disadvantage is your baby might quickly outgrow it and you would need to look at a new sleeping arrangement sooner.

Convertible Cribs

A convertible crib is relatively more expensive than a standard crib although many are still largely affordable. This type of crib enables you to convert it to a toddler bed and subsequently, a full-sized bed, which makes it more economical in the long-run. If you do not want the hassle of shopping for a toddler bed two years down the road, then a convertible crib may be the right choice.

No Drop Side Cribs

This type of crib is not too popular because not many parents are tall enough to reach deep down into a crib to pick up their little one. However, they are about safety and security. You don’t have to worry about your baby fiddling with the latches or normal wear-and-tear causing the drop sides to be improperly secured. So, if you are paranoid about safety, look for a no drop side crib.

Conclusion

Finding the right crib for your baby needs a little work. What is right for one parent may not be suitable for another. The avoid regret after purchase, list down your needs and the features that you want for your crib. Then, narrow down your crib choices through the list to arrive at your purchase.
