Recalls On Baby Cribs - What Smart Parents Need To Know

All baby cribs that are manufactured in the United States must comply with strict safety standards and guidelines. These safety standards are continually being updated based on new information. Cribs produced since 1974 meet certain safety standards. However, since the safety standards are under constant review there have been updates to the standards through the years since then.

There have been many recalls on baby cribs and baby products through the years. Recalls happen when there has been substantial evidence to show that a particular feature on a crib is unsafe and can cause imminent harm to a baby or infant. Sometimes numerous accidents have occurred to prompt a crib recall.

Every parent needs to be sure that the crib is safe for their baby before they purchase it. You cannot rely solely on an inspection tag or a sticker, which shows that the crib meets current safety standards. While this tag is a start, it is certainly not the end of your obligation to keep your child safe. Baby crib recalls may have happened since production and you can't count on the store that is selling the crib to know of all the recalls.

To be safe, all parents need to check their child's crib for recall information. This can easily be done using the Internet. Many baby sites post recall information that is updated as well as archived for easy retrieval. The first site to check is the manufacturer of the crib itself. Each company will always list any recalled products that they have made. There are other sites you can visit as well to check on baby crib recalls. If you can't find any information you can inquire to the company to verify that there has been no recall on the specific product in question.

· www.recalls.gov This site provides information on all types of recalled products in the United States. · www.jpma.org The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association is a group that oversees the manufacture of children's products including cribs. They have specific information that pertains to recalled products. · www.parents.com This site devoted to parents provides comprehensive recall information on baby cribs as well as all types of infant and children's products. · www.babyhomesafety.com This site is devoted to providing parents with important child safety information as well as recall information.

In addition to checking for crib recalls as a parent you need to continue to inspect the baby crib once it is in use. Check it at least monthly for stability. Make sure that no hardware is loose or missing, which could pose a choking hazard to infants. Check all the slats of the crib to make sure that none are loose. Feel the slats to make sure that there are no rough edges. Check the mechanism on the sides of any cribs that have them to make sure that they are working properly and that they cannot be pushed down easily.

Recalls on baby cribs should always be taken seriously. Don't assume that the recall doesn't apply to your situation. Instead be proactive by writing down the specific model number and purchase date as well as manufacture date of your baby crib. Keep this handy for future reference. If there is a recall always find out what the recommended procedure is for fixing the problem. Sometimes the company provides a retrofit kit at no charge that will correct the problem. Remove your child from the crib until the situation is resolved. I also have written an article on how to shop for the best rated baby cribs.

Explaining The Types Of Baby Cribs

Explaining The Types Of Baby Cribs

There are many choices available to you when choosing a baby crib. There are several types of baby cribs to pick from. Your particular décor preferences, budget and needs will help determine the type of baby crib that is best for you.

Standard

Standard baby cribs are those that you see most often. These are the typical baby crib. There are two types of standard cribs - the single drop side and the double drop side. The single drop side has one side that can be adjusted or dropped down to provide ease of getting to the child. In double drop side cribs both sides can be dropped down.

This may be helpful in a room where the crib is free-standing. In many cases the crib is placed with one side against the wall and therefore you may only need one side to be able to be dropped down.

Convertible

Convertible cribs start out as a baby crib and can later be converted into a toddler bed, daybed or full size bed. The convertible bed can be more expensive but it is often able to be used as the child grows. The head and foot ends may be used as a headboard and footboard with the addition of a simple kit which can be purchased where you bought your crib.

The convertible crib is a wonderful way to save the additional expense of purchasing larger sized furniture when needed. A disadvantage is that you may want to change the décor as the child gets older. To avoid that problem choose a wooden or metal crib that can go with many types of décor styles in the future.

Canopy

Canopy cribs have four posts at the corners to hold a canopy frame. You can then place canopy fabric onto the frame to form a canopy. Canopy cribs provide an elegant setting for the baby. They are also functional as you can provide a somewhat secure environment to protect the baby using the canopy as a partial enclosure. You can purchase pre-made canopy tops in specific designs or can make your own using the fabric of your choice.

Diligence should be used when providing a canopy crib for your infant. Excess fabric can be pulled by the child and may become a safety hazard. To ensure the safety of your baby always make sure that the canopy material and hardware are kept out of reach of the baby.

Round

Round cribs are a popular new option. Round cribs are comfortable for the baby because they can sleep in any position. They are also easily accessed by the parents. The round crib typically has a drop side. These can be very cute infant cribs. One drawback is finding affordable bedding to fit on the round mattress. This bedding is also not available in many patterns or colors. An option would be to sew your own bedding to make it more affordable.

There are other types of cribs but these are the most popular.

I'm a goth mommy looking for some "odd" crib bedding... And I'm buying a mini crib just to make it more difficult... Lol. So is there anywhere where I could find some odd mini crib sheet set? Or just something different than the usual jungle, teddy bear, pink theme... Blah. Thanks!

Check these out. I'm not sure if you can purchase them in a store but they are definitely different.

Should I put my toddler in a bed or convertible crib?

We are expecting our 2nd baby in September & have a 16 month old daughter. They will be sharing a room. Should I put my toddler in a twin bed, or should I buy a convertible crib & convert her when I feel she is ready.
I am really scared she's going to climb out of her bed & get into trouble. She has no problem in her crib now, and has never tried to climb out. Im wondering if buying the convertible crib will be a waste of money.

get a 3-n-1 or 4-n-1 crib. they go from cribs to toddler beds, than you can use the sides to use as headboards for a regular bed. my friend has one and loves it. i put a link to one they have a walmart. i also have a gate on my son's door so he can't wander around at night. i started that after he woke me up around 1 am with every light on in the house, and every roll of toilet paper i had unrolled across the floor.

Things to Remember while buying a Baby Crib Bedding

Upon buying a baby crib, it is more likely for you to buy a bedding set to complete everything. In most of the stores, you will often find four up to six pieces of crib bedding which are all included in one set, but is it really necessary to buy all the included items?

Use Sheets

All parents are becoming very sensitive when it comes to their child’s safety. Being over protective is not bad unless it’s reasonable. For instance, when it comes to crib safety, some parents prefer to buy and use bumper pads and comforter. These parents should know that pediatricians always recommend to use less sheets or just actually bare crib bedding. Crib sheets are better to be bought first than those expensive unnecessary accessories. Choose high quality and comfortable crib sheets that can possibly resist all types of leaks. Although those bumper pads and comforter offer safety and security as expected, they could cause accidents especially when babies are left alone. Comforter may lead into suffocation while bumper pad cords, if left unsecured, may get the baby entangled. If there’s no available comforter then swaddling blankets and baby sacks will do to protect your baby from being too cold.

Swaddling Blankets and Baby Sacks

Baby sacks are just like sleeping bags, those with head and arm holes. A normal blanket will not be able to hold a baby that squirms out, unlike baby sacks. Baby’s movements are now more controllable when wrapped with a baby sack. Swaddling blankets are advisable especially for those new born infants because it gives soothing and comforting features which also help them to sleep better just like a womb’s snugness. You can find products in the market that offers safety features for your little ones. There are swaddling blankets that come with fasteners and are adjustable to give babies a better fit and get more secured. If you can afford to buy a comforter to match your nursery’s decor then go for it. Comforters are useful especially during winter. You can use it to wrap your baby while getting him or her asleep in your arms or if you would to go anywhere. Always remember that a comforter must not left in the crib together with your baby or else it will cause accident. Use a blanket instead if you don’t want your baby touch the crib’s foot.

Risk of Sleep Positioner

Crib bedding product comes another of its type – the sleep positioner. This product is a foam wedge at each side to prevent your baby from moving too much but many people proved that it only increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) because the baby’s position will end up on his or her tummy. Soft bedding in the crib, such as a sleep positioner, are discouraged to be used by the mixed customer reviews and reports. Beware of these products that are not yet sufficiently tested for safety and can also cause difficulty of your baby’s normal breathing.

More Items

Crib bedding sets also comes with other items. They usually consist of a diaper stacker and a valance, which are known as items that basically give additional decor of your nursery than offering its real practical purpose. Most crib bedding set has its decorative appearance and features that parents would certainly tempt to buy. Experts say that parents should be aware of leaving anything soft and cushioned inside the crib because baby’s air passages are tend to close and this will cause suffocation. So think carefully and always remember these important things when buying crib bedding products. Make sure that you will only buy those necessary and proven safe items.

3 Simple Tips to Choose Baby Cribs Furniture

3 Simple Tips to Choose Baby Cribs Furniture

When we have a <a rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);" href="http://www-baby.us/">baby</a>, there are a lot of things we need to prepare. Baby cribs furniture probably the most important things we need to buy. There are a lot of types of baby cribs furniture. We must aware of any kind of baby cribs furniture. Top priority is safety. We must find a baby cribs furniture that can guarantee the safety of our baby. I am sure all of you don’t want anything happens to your baby.

A little bit hard to pick a baby cribs furniture that can guarantee the safety of our baby. As a preference, you might want to ask a valuable information from a person who had a experience in dealing with this kind of issues. We don’t need to embarrass. Asking people who had the experience with baby cribs furniture could make your job easier to find a safety baby cribs furniture.

There are also a few tips for you before decides to buy a baby cribs furniture.

Tip #1: Safety First

All new baby cribs sold in the US will pass safety standards required by the Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. However, cribs manufactured before 1990 may not conform to the latest safety guidelines.

If you are given a used crib by a relative, or if you decide to buy a used crib from  eBay, make sure the crib has not been recalled for safety issues. You can do this by going to the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

Tip #2: Choose the Right Size

If you intend to use the convertible crib after your child outgrows his or her toddler bed, you will want to make sure the crib will convert to the right sized bed with the optional side rails. Some cribs will convert to twin-sized beds, while others convert to full-sized. Many children bedrooms will not have room for a full-sized bed, plus a dresser, a desk, and other furniture needed by older children. For this reason, you should look beyond the style and make sure you will be able to use the crib as long as possible

Tip #3: Choose the Right Price

Convertible cribs are sold in a very wide range of prices, from under 0 to well over ,000. Any new crib will conform to modern safety standards, but different brands may be sturdier than others, and may have finishes that will last longer. These things are not always easy to see in a brand new piece of furniture, but may become more evident as you use the crib over time. The price itself is not always the best indicator of value
